THE CHINATOWN DEVELOPMENT - EL CONDOR LANDS

This development is about adding to an already dynamic Chinatown to provide a better future for everyone in our community. It was designed to create a mixed-use community that respects the unique history of Chinatown in Calgary, and where residents, businesses, and visitors can contribute to make it even better.

The Chinatown Project is located between 2nd and 3rd Avenue SW and bordered by 1st Street SW. In collaboration with Perkins and Will.

Louis on 9th - Inglewood

Hive conducted an extensive two-phase engagement methodology, including both virtual and in-person components for a land use redesignation in the historical community of Inglewood. Landstar hopes to take the existing single storey retail shops, and transform the area with the development of a transit oriented, mixed-use, multi-residential site.

Glamorgan Landing Estates

Hive Developments planned and coordinated public consultation and engagement. With a seniors home and affordable housing complex to either side of the site, our team created a variety of ways to engage the relevant stakeholders throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The project design, created by S2 Architecture, is a mid-market rental building that augments the vision of a complete multi-generational campus.

Summit Kids - Bondar Daycare

Summit Kids is developing a temporary childcare facility using ATCO structures. Hive facilitated a development permit application, project management, landscape architecture and direct advocacy for our client with the City of Calgary.

BMO Centre Expansion: Accessibility Engagement

Hive Developments organized and facilitated a multi-stakeholder online engagement process with groups, such as the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta and Deaf & Hear Alberta, representing diverse accessibility needs of citizens. Through the process, a set of guiding principles, followed by specific recommendations were generated to inform the ongoing design of the new BMO Center expansion. The end goal was to help design a space that was useful, safe, comfortable, and interesting for people with all levels of ability.

LUKES DRUG MART

Locally owned and family run since 1951, Lukes Drug Mart has been a key staple and part of Calgary’s local business scene. It has helped redefine the communal fabric of the local neighbourhoods by providing local products and services as well as a diversity of imported products. Hive Developments undertook a series of Change of Use Development Permits to move Lukes Drug Mart from a traditional pharmacy to a mixed-use retail, licensed café, and pharmacy store, creating a new social hub for the neighbourhood of Killarney.

LLOYDMINSTER

With its amalgamation into a single municipality in 1903 and receiving its charter as a city in 1958, Lloydminster has been known to have strong democratic engagement. To this day, the city holds an event called “Your Voice Night” in order to maintain a vibrant community while prioritizing the voices of residents in government decisions. Our Hive Team worked with the city’s Community Planning department to engage citizens to create a plan to revitalize downtown Lloydminster.

CURRIE BARRACKS

The Hive team was pleased to do research on businesses that currently operate on the Currie Barracks site to provide a feasibility study on integration with the new developments.

ASIAN HERITAGE FOUNDATION

The focus of Asian Heritage Foundation (AHF) has been educational and inter-cultural experiences, strengthening community through diversity, and the Foundation is a driving force for Asian Heritage Month celebrations in May. AHF partners with broad based institutions to strengthen relationships with Asian cultural groups and institutions. Our Hive Team works with different communities and institutions to promote cultural diversity and facilitate community meetings.
